David Cameron, M.B.Ch., M..Prax.Med. - South Africa Medical Preceptor
Dr. Cameron is a professor on the faculty in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Pretoria Medical School, and the Principal Family Physician of the Moneteke District, North West Province. He was the medical officer for Frere Hospital in East London and Jubilee Hospital at Hammanskraal where he initiated mass immunization against measles, training of PHC nurses and built a pre-school at Jubilee Hospital. His special areas of interests are medical education, obstetrics, anaesthetics, palliative and served as secretary of the Pretoria branch of South Africa Academy of Family Practice.
Dr. Cameron has extensive experience in training medical students in the area of community health. He also sees the importance of training privacy care in the area of community health.
Dr. Cameron was an examiner for the OSCE examination. He also has supervised masters dissertations in Family Medicines and has initiated and maintained weekly medical education programs for doctors at Jubilee Hospital. He has published research in rape. A survey of victims present at a district hospital community based education, issues in palliative medicine and chronic illness. Dr. Cameron has presented papers in South Africa and Australia. He is a member of South Africa Academy of Family Practice of Hospice Association of South Africa of South African Academy of Family Practice Rural Health Initiative.
